Stand for something you believe in.
March 10, 2018 - This day is going to stay with me for a long time. On our way to the march, we were greeted by a coyote in the daytime, reminding us yet again that the wild lives with us. As we started joining the crowd, we were continually greeted by wildlife being represented in signs that people held up. I truly felt like I was with people who valued the same ideology I believed in - protecting the land and water is a must, and it felt so powerful to see friends, unplanned, in the crowd. Having strong Indigenous leaders speak for the environment was also the most inspiring and heartfelt plea to protect our waters and land. Ta'ah, Kelsilem and Melina Laboucan-Massimo, your words captured me in a way that I can't yet describe.
My heart is full today. Thank you to all those who showed up and empowered everyone around them. This is a small act in the fight to save our natural resources, but every act matters, and collectively we have to change the capitalist mindset. I am eternally grateful for Indigenous leaders who have always fought for the rights of the land and its inhabitants.
